Mums and Babies

At last, a dedicated online 6 week course for you and your baby or babies (or toddlers/young children).

You’ve had your baby (or babies).

You had visions of this blissful time.

The celebrities on social media and magazines all show that perfect time, right?! You imagined how you’d move around with ease showing off your new baby as your body “pinged” back to how it was pre-pregnancy.

Instead, you’re aching in places that you never knew existed, you’re feeling exhausted and at times overwhelmed. You’d love to meet some other mums and get back into moving your body because you know it’s going to make you feel good, but you’re not really sure where to start.

You imagined that you’d be jumping back into your pre-pregnancy exercise routine after the 6 week check with the doctor, but you don’t feel the same as you did pre-pregnancy.

Perhaps your core is feeling weak and even simple movements make you wonder whether your stomach is going to fall out. You might even have been told by a doctor or midwife that you have a separation of the abdominals or diastasis recti.

Did you have a c-section (planned or emergency) and are finding it difficult to connect to that area and feel your core muscles engage?

Or a vaginal birth which resulted in a tear or episiotomy and everything’s still feeling a bit different down there?

Maybe you’ve realised that you’re leaking when you can’t quite get to the toilet on time or when you sneeze or cough or run or jump.

All of these are so very common after birth, and in most cases fully resolvable.

You need some guidance of where to start back on your exercise journey, so that you can heal your body (not so that it can be back to where it was before – as far as I’m aware we’re yet to invent the ability to go back in time or even pause time), but instead so that you can feel confident in your body again. So you’ll know what movements are available to you at that moment and what ones you’ll be able to get to with time and practice.

Do you want to be running regularly again, getting back to that kickboxing class or the gym or perhaps you simply want to be able to play on the floor with your baby without aches and pains?

Everything is possible with the knowledge and strength that you’ll start building during this six week course.

Sounds good, right?

The 6 week course includes:

  • 6 x 1 hour classes via Zoom at 1pm on Tuesdays.
  • A pdf manual of the sequences we will cover and the home practice suggestions.
  • Lifetime access to short videos for you to practice the moves from the classes in your own time.
  • A supportive Whatsapp group for the class.
  • Time to chat after the class with the other mums on Zoom.
  • Access to a private online Membership Community for the duration of the course.

You will:

  • Learn yoga, pilates and restorative exercise-based moves to restore strength, function, and stability to your whole body, but particularly your core and pelvic floor, improve diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, back problems and core strength.
  • Receive personal attention with a maximum of 6 participants in the class
  • Learn how to optimise your daily movement patterns to aid your healing throughout the day.

Tuesdays 1pm – foundations – 6 weeks
Time: 1pm (60 minutes)
Dates: Tuesday 3 November, 10 November, 17 November, 24 November, 1 December and 8 December
Venue: Online via Zoom
Investment: £150 for the six week course, including the Restore Your Core Foundations manual and home practice videos via an online membership site.

Do I have to have my baby or babies with me?

No, not at all. If you do have your baby or babies with you, obviously you are free to tend to your baby when you need to during the class.

My baby is a toddler/young child, does that matter?

No, you can still join! I just wanted to create a course for mums with young children as opposed to women who haven’t had children or who have older children.

Do I need to have my camera on?

No, you don’t have to have your camera on the whole time, but I do need to see how you’re moving to be able to give you feedback. The class is specifically small, so that I can give each of you some individual attention.

Will everyone be able to hear me or is my microphone on mute?

I encourage you to have your microphone on so that you can feedback to me what you’re feeling as we move. If your baby or toddler or child is upset, you can always mute yourself for a period of time.

Can I wear my pyjamas?

Yes. The beauty of classes on Zoom is that there is no need to get dressed! Having said that, form-fitting clothes help me to see more easily what your body is doing as you move. My favourite option would be leggings and a form-fitting top, but most of all I want you to be comfortable.

Will everyone see me?

No, not during the class. When we start the class, I will spotlight me, so that I will fill the screen of your phone, tablet, computer or tv. You can switch to gallery mode, but most tend to keep me on spotlight as we do the class, so they will not be looking at the other attendees.

What if I have questions?

You can ask questions about the moves as we go. And at the end of the class there will be time for additonal questions. I will leave the Zoom open for you all to continue to chat for as long as you like after the class.

I’m pregnant, can I still join the class?

Yes. Restore Your Core is perfect for pregnancy and for preparing your body for birth and beyond. I offer modifications for any move that is not available to you.

Will I be “fixed” after the 6 week course?

Firstly, you are not broken, so you do not need to be fixed. Secondly, this course is not a passive quick fix. This course will empower you with the tools and information you need to move in a way that is more beneficial for your body for the rest of your life. Although some women may find that the six weeks resolves all or some of their issues, for most this is just the start of a beautiful journey in understanding your body better, healing and making it stronger over time.

Do I need any special equipment to take part?

No. Although I will give you a list of everything I am using and how to buy it, if you’d like one there is absolutely no need to buy anything as I will also give you alternatives of things that you are sure to have in your house already!

What if I miss a week?

There will be a replay of the class available to you if you miss a week for a limited period of time. You will also still have access to the shorter homework videos.

Let me help you get on the right track with some n Let me help you get on the right track with some new healthy habits. When was the last time you sat down and worked out exactly what you needed to do for your mind and your body to feel good. When was the last time you put them first?

I know it’s hard at the moment. You’re literally trying not to drop all the balls. I saw something recently on here about making sure you drop the rubber balls and not the glass ones. If there was only one glass one, it would be you. If you are not feeling well in your body and mind then you may struggle to fulfill all the requests and demands and the things you want to do for everyone else.

Thank you @thepsychologymum for this brilliant artwork. Her account is well worth a follow.

If in doubt walk... So many things to think about If in doubt walk...

So many things to think about, work through for the coming weeks, but first to treat my body and mind to some nature. The feeling of the mud squelching beneath my feet, the cold air on my face and that reminder that I’m alive and well.

I’ll certainly be getting in my daily walks over the coming weeks. It’s a non-negotiable for me. And my reminder to myself is that it’s best to go I’m the morning for me! Really sets up my day.

What’s going on your daily non-negotiable list?

Wow, another national lockdown. I’m certainly f Wow, another national lockdown. I’m certainly feeling all the emotions right now. Please don’t suffer alone. This great infographic from @thehappynewspaper has many resources if you don’t feel like you can talk to someone you know. Today, I’ve chatted to my mum, jumped on WhatsApp groups with friends and posted in the @thrivecollectiveclub Facebook group. I know I’ll be leaning on those groups for support in the coming weeks, whilst also providing support where I can.
2020 in books! Although I’ve realised I need to 2020 in books!

Although I’ve realised I need to keep better book reading records to do this year on year!

I’m an info addict. When I did @gretchenrubin’s four tendencies test my most dominant tendency is as questioner. That didn’t surprise me one bit. For as long as I can remember, any subject I’m interested in I read and I listen and I research. I had a bit of a hiatus from reading when the girls were really young, but now I’m fully back into my evening bath time and reading routine. These were my reads of 2020. I read Do Less twice - I loved it so much and found it so relevant, but one of the other books trumped it as my book of the year. Can you guess which was my book of the year?

What was your book of the year?

Happy New Year to you all!
The full moon from the early hours of this morning The full moon from the early hours of this morning and that full moon energy stays for another day or so. The perfect time to release whatever doesn’t serve you whether it be looking at social media or the news or worrying about things in the future. Falling at the end of year serves as a doubly great time to reflect and release. What have you learned from 2020. What stays? What needs to go? I know 2021 for me is looking to find the joy in every day. Life’s too short and precious to waste on doing many things that I don’t find joyful!

What’s on your joy list for 2021?
